Lions Shake Up Roster: Four Changes Announced Before Facing Rams

Detroit Adjusts Key Positions Ahead of Week 15 Showdown

The Detroit Lions made several pivotal roster moves ahead of their Week 15 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams, highlighted by the loss of standout safety Brian Branch to injured reserve. Branch, who suffered a torn Achilles during last week’s victory over the Cowboys, will miss the remainder of the season—a significant blow to a defense that relies on his versatility, physicality, and playmaking ability.

Branch Out, Zylstra In

With Branch sidelined, the Lions wasted no time making adjustments. The team announced four roster moves on Saturday:

  • S Brian Branch → Placed on IR
  • TE Shane Zylstra → Activated from IR to 53-man roster
  • S Erick Hallett → Elevated from practice squad
  • TE Giovanni Ricci → Elevated from practice squad

The return of Shane Zylstra brings a familiar presence back to the offense. Known for his blocking skills and red-zone threat, Zylstra could provide Detroit with a boost at tight end during a critical stretch of the season. Meanwhile, Erick Hallett steps into the secondary to help fill the void left by Branch, and Giovanni Ricci adds depth to the tight end room.

Resilience Amid Adversity

While losing a key defensive player is never easy, the Lions are embracing the “next man up” mentality. The team’s ability to adapt quickly and trust its depth will be crucial as they continue their push for the playoffs.

Detroit now turns its focus to the Rams, hoping the reshuffled roster can maintain stability and momentum. As the season reaches its final stretch, every adjustment counts—and the Lions are betting on their depth and resilience to carry them forward.
