Lions Star Defender Says It’s ‘Unlikely’ Detroit Will Pursue Myles Garrett

Aidan Hutchinson Calls Myles Garrett Trade “Unlikely” for Detroit Lions

Speculation about Myles Garrett’s future with the Cleveland Browns has swirled ever since the star defensive end publicly requested a trade. Teams like Dallas, Buffalo, Tampa Bay, and Detroit have been mentioned as potential landing spots, but one prominent Detroit player thinks the Lions might not be as interested as some might believe.

Aidan Hutchinson, another elite pass rusher for the Lions, voiced his doubts about Garrett joining the team. “I don’t think – you can’t have that many dudes on one D-line,” Hutchinson said when asked about the possibility of Garrett coming to Detroit. “Who knows, but I think it’s very unlikely.”

While Hutchinson’s concerns are understandable, given the stacked defensive line the Lions have already, the pairing of Hutchinson and Garrett would create a nightmare scenario for opposing offenses. With Hutchinson posting impressive stats last season, including 17 quarterback hits and 7 tackles for loss, adding Garrett would have given the Lions a dominant pass rush duo, potentially pushing Detroit deeper into the playoffs.

Garrett, coming off his seventh consecutive season with double-digit sacks, expressed a desire to join a contender in his trade request. The 29-year-old Defensive Player of the Year posted an incredible 14 sacks and 22 tackles for loss in 2024, cementing his status as one of the league’s best. However, as much as Lions fans may dream of Garrett lining up opposite Hutchinson, it seems that Detroit’s defense may already be too crowded to fit him in.

Despite the speculation, it’s clear that Garrett’s future in Cleveland remains uncertain, with his desire to play for a contender still a priority. But if the Lions aren’t willing to sacrifice draft capital or adjust their defensive scheme, it looks like the potential pairing of Garrett and Hutchinson may remain a fantasy for now.
