Lions Star Racks Up Honors While Everyone Else Warms Up

The Lions are shaking off their 2024 season and already eyeing a big 2025 comeback — Super Bowl dreams very much alive with +1000 odds, per DraftKings. But before diving into OTAs and gearing up for that Week 1 showdown with the Packers, one of Detroit’s stars took care of some unfinished business.

Running back David Montgomery just added a new title to his name — college graduate.

Montgomery earned his degree from Iowa State, something he’s been determined to finish ever since he left school early for the NFL. He kept that promise, and on Friday, he finally walked the stage.

“Getting my Iowa State degree was the most important thing I had on my list,” Montgomery said. “I made a promise to myself and I wasn’t going to waste the opportunity that came with a full-ride scholarship.”

Before becoming a fan-favorite in Detroit, Montgomery was a standout at Iowa State, racking up nearly 3,000 rushing yards and helping turn the program around. He went pro in 2019 and spent four solid seasons in Chicago before taking it up a notch with the Lions — already posting nearly 1,800 yards and 25 touchdowns in just two years.

At 28, he’s got plenty of accomplishments under his belt. Now, with his diploma in hand, Montgomery’s next goal? Help bring the Lombardi Trophy to Detroit.
