Lions tap Tigers announcer Jason Benetti for 2025 preseason broadcast team

The Detroit Lions are shaking up their preseason broadcast coverage this August by tapping multi‐sport announcer Jason Benetti, currently the voice of the Detroit Tigers, to lead the TV play-by-play. He’ll be joined by former Lions lineman and current radio analyst T.J. Lang, now stepping into a color-commentary role, while Dannie Rogers returns to the sideline reporting team  .

Benetti brings a rich and unique background: a Syracuse and Wake Forest Law alum who’s risen to prominence as the primary play-by-play voice for the Tigers, earned the 2024 Michigan Sportscaster of the Year, and has called national games across MLB, NFL, college hoops, and more for FOX  . His addition signals a blend of charismatic storytelling and broad-sports insight for Detroit fans tuning in.

Lang, who suited up for Detroit and Green Bay (winning a Super Bowl with the Packers), expressed excitement about expanding his media role: representing hometown pride and NFL savviness in the booth  . Together with Rogers, they’ll cover three preseason matchups:

Aug 8 at Atlanta

Aug 16 vs Miami

Aug 23 vs Houston

All games will air locally on Fox 2 Detroit and across the Lions Television Network  .

Big Picture:
This crew adds star power and hometown appeal to Lions broadcasts. Benetti’s cross-sport credentials and Lang’s insider perspective aim to elevate preseason broadcasts, while also tightening the thread between Detroit’s fanbases for baseball and football.
