Lions Trade Proposal Brings $51M Edge Rusher to Detroit

The Detroit Lions are still looking for ways to strengthen their pass rush, and a new trade proposal suggests they could land a proven edge rusher without giving up too much.

Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton floated the idea of the Lions trading a fourth-round and a seventh-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for Bryce Huff. The 26-year-old pass rusher signed a three-year, $51 million deal with Philly last offseason but struggled with injuries and inconsistent play. He finished the season with just 2.5 sacks and was barely used in Vic Fangio’s defense, even sitting out the Super Bowl.

Detroit could offer Huff a fresh start, pairing him with Aidan Hutchinson to create a more dangerous pass rush. The Lions have yet to re-sign Za’Darius Smith, and former second-round pick Josh Paschal hasn’t lived up to expectations. Meanwhile, Marcus Davenport is back, but his injury history makes him far from a sure thing.

If the Lions don’t trade for Huff, they could look to the draft. CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards linked them to Texas A&M’s Shemar Stewart with the No. 28 pick. Stewart has elite physical tools but needs development. With Hutchinson already leading the way, Detroit could afford to bring him along at a slower pace.

Would Huff be worth a mid-round trade, or should the Lions focus on a younger option in the draft? Either way, they need to find more help for Hutchinson to take their defense to the next level.
