Lions Trade Up Twice, Land Guard Tate Ratledge and WR Isaac TeSlaa on Day 2 of Draft

Brad Holmes wasn’t messing around on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Detroit Lions made not one but two trades to move up and grab players they believe can make an immediate impact.

In the second round, Detroit traded picks No. 57 and 230 to Denver to move up three spots to No. 60, where they selected Georgia guard Tate Ratledge. A three-year starter and former five-star recruit, Ratledge brings power, size (6’6″, 320 lbs), and proven toughness to the offensive line. Lions GM Brad Holmes praised his versatility and said he “fits like a glove” in Detroit’s scheme.

Not done yet, the Lions pulled off another trade in the third round. They sent the final pick of the third round (No. 102) and two future third-rounders in 2026 to Jacksonville in exchange for pick No. 70, along with sixth-rounders this year and next. With that pick, Detroit took a familiar name for Michigan football fans—wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa out of Arkansas.

TeSlaa, originally from Hudsonville, Michigan, started his college career at Hillsdale before transferring to Arkansas. At 6’4″, 214 lbs, he’s a big, physical target who averaged nearly 20 yards per catch last season and found the end zone three times in just five starts.

Holmes mentioned that TeSlaa showed up to his interview in a Lions jersey he’s had since eighth grade, calling it “fanboy stuff”—but made it clear the decision wasn’t sentimental. “He’s big, smart, tough, catches with his hands, blocks, and plays special teams,” Holmes said.

These additions come a night after Detroit selected defensive tackle Tyleik Williams out of Ohio State in the first round. As the Lions build for another deep playoff run, it’s clear they’re not just looking for talent—they want grit, versatility, and guys who love football.
