Lions Urged to Revisit Free Agent DeMarcus Walker as Depth Questions Linger at DE

The Detroit Lions are heading into 2025 with their defensive anchor, Aidan Hutchinson, fully cleared and ready to roll. But despite that boost, there are still question marks about who will consistently line up opposite him on the edge. Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton believes the answer could be veteran DeMarcus Walker.

Walker, recently released by the Bears with a year left on his $21 million deal, is no stranger to Detroit. The Lions brought him in for a free-agent visit back in April but never pulled the trigger. Now, with Za’Darius Smith cut and Marcus Davenport’s injury history looming large, Moton is urging the Lions to take another look.

Walker offers experience, versatility, and proven production—77 tackles, 7 sacks, and 32 QB hits over two seasons in Chicago. He also has the ability to shift inside when needed, making him a flexible fit in Aaron Glenn’s system. With Hutchinson now back to full strength, Detroit has a clearer view of what’s missing—and a second chance at adding Walker could be the depth move that solidifies their pass rush.
