Lions Urged to Trade for Young Rams Center to Fill Frank Ragnow Void

The Detroit Lions didn’t waste any time trying to reinforce their offensive line after longtime center Frank Ragnow shocked the team with his retirement. They quickly signed former Cardinals lineman Trystan Colon, who brings some versatility but isn’t considered a long-term solution at center.

That’s led some to suggest the Lions keep looking—and one name that’s popped up is Rams center Beaux Limmer.

Limmer, a sixth-round pick in 2024, wasn’t expected to start right away in L.A. But when former Lions guard Jonah Jackson went down early with an injury, Limmer was thrown into the fire and ended up starting 14 games as a rookie. While he gave up 21 pressures in pass protection, he held his own as a run blocker—an area where Detroit is most likely to miss Ragnow.

With the Rams re-signing Coleman Shelton to take over at center, Limmer could be expendable—and potentially a smart trade target for Lions GM Brad Holmes. He’s not a flawless option, but with real starting experience under his belt and room to grow, Limmer could be a solid fallback plan if Detroit doesn’t feel confident with its current in-house options.

The Lions don’t have to rush a decision, but adding another young, proven center to the mix might be the move they need to keep the offense on track.
