Lions WR Jameson Williams Won’t Face NFL Discipline Over Gun Matter

Detroit Lions receiver Jameson Williams has dodged potential NFL discipline for a gun-related incident that took place during the 2024 season. The league has officially closed the case, according to a spokesperson who spoke with the Detroit Free Press, meaning there will be no further action taken against the young wideout.

The situation stems from an October 8 traffic stop, during which Williams was a passenger in a car driven by his brother. Police discovered two firearms—one registered to each brother—but while Williams didn’t have a concealed pistol license at the time, he later obtained the proper permit. Since there were no charges or arrests, the NFL saw no reason to step in.

For Williams, this is a welcome relief after already serving suspensions for violating the league’s gambling policy in 2023 and the performance-enhancing substances policy in 2024. Despite those setbacks, he had a breakout year, hauling in 58 receptions for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns while helping the Lions secure the NFC’s top seed with a 15-2 record.

Though Detroit’s playoff run ended in disappointment with a loss to Washington in the divisional round, Williams made his mark with a highlight-reel 61-yard touchdown rush. Now, with the league’s investigation behind him, he can fully focus on building off his strong season and becoming an even bigger weapon in the Lions’ offense for 2025.
