Over the years, the Philadelphia Eagles have evolved into a powerhouse franchise, capable of outmuscling some of the NFL’s toughest teams. Yet, the Washington Commanders have consistently found ways to challenge them, earning a reputation as a formidable opponent.

The Commanders’ roster construction has made them a difficult matchup for Philadelphia, with their physicality and disciplined play regularly creating problems for the Eagles. As the two teams prepare to face off in the conference championship, Philadelphia remains focused on overcoming Washington’s defensive front, which has historically given them trouble.

“They’re really good,” said All-Pro tackle Lane Johnson. “They play really hard together, they run games effectively. Collectively, they’re a tough, savvy defense. They don’t make many mistakes and they play well together. They did a good job of reading what we were doing in the second game (a 36-33 Washington win on December 22), so we have to make adjustments.”

Although the Commanders will be without standout Daron Payne, sidelined due to a knee and finger injury, their defense remains a significant concern for the Eagles. Philadelphia knows the importance of every player stepping up in this high-stakes game.

“Excited for the opportunity that’s ahead of us,” said tight end Dallas Goedert. “They’re a good group with the way the edges play. They’ve got good guys in the interior. Both of their linebackers fly around. It’s going to be a good challenge for us, but like I always say, if we’re good up front, we’re going to be tough to beat. Just excited to go out there with the O-line and see if we can move people around.”

The Eagles are dealing with their own injury concerns, with starting center Cam Jurgens (back) listed as questionable and Goedert (ankle) cleared to play. Meanwhile, quarterback Jalen Hurts (ankle) is fully healthy and off the injury report
