Matthew Stafford Reflects on Interest from Other NFL Teams and His Decision to Stay

Rams’ Quarterback Opts for Stability Over Change

After some offseason speculation, Matthew Stafford has officially reaffirmed his commitment to the Los Angeles Rams. Instead of pursuing opportunities with other teams, the veteran quarterback, now 37, chose to restructure his contract and remain in Los Angeles. Though the Rams granted him permission to explore interest from other franchises, Stafford ultimately decided that staying put was the best move for his career.

Multiple Teams Expressed Interest in Stafford

Reports suggest that several teams, including the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders, were eager to acquire Stafford. The Giants, in particular, were rumored to have extended a competitive offer. However, despite the financial appeal, Stafford turned down the opportunity, prioritizing familiarity and stability with the Rams.

During an appearance on his wife Kelly Stafford’s podcast, The Morning After With Kelly Stafford and Hank, Stafford shared insight into the emotions behind his decision.

A New Perspective on the Process

Navigating the possibility of leaving the Rams was not easy for Stafford, but he found a silver lining in the situation.

“I was talking to Kelly the other day just about this process and how it can sometimes feel like such a negative, it’s a tough thing,” Stafford admitted. “But at the same time, I was talking to somebody and they kind of gave me the perspective of like, ‘Man, this is such a positive time in your life. You’re 37 years old going into your 17th NFL season and somebody still wants you to be on their team.’”

This realization shifted his mindset, allowing him to appreciate the continued demand for his skillset.

Grateful to Keep Playing at the Highest Level

Stafford expressed gratitude for the teams that pursued him but emphasized his appreciation for the Rams’ confidence in him.

“It’s still a humbling thing to have teams—and most importantly, the team I’m playing for in the Rams—excited about me being a part of their team and helping them lead the way,” he said.

With Stafford locked in for another season, the Rams can move forward knowing their veteran leader remains fully committed to guiding the team.
