Matthew Stafford’s Rams Tenure Could Be Ending Sooner Than Expected

Matthew Stafford on the Move? Rams Reportedly Open to Trading Their Super Bowl-Winning QB

Could Matthew Stafford’s time with the Los Angeles Rams be coming to an end? According to a new report, the Rams have given Stafford’s representatives the green light to explore trade options, potentially paving the way for the veteran quarterback to join a new team.

Rams Give Stafford Permission to Seek Trade

NFL insider Tom Pelissero dropped the news on The Rich Eisen Show, revealing that Stafford’s agents have been told they can talk to other teams about a trade. While this doesn’t guarantee Stafford is leaving, it certainly suggests that the Rams are open to moving on from their Super Bowl-winning QB.

One major factor in the decision? Stafford’s contract. After restructuring his deal last year, the quarterback now carries a massive $49.6 million cap hit in 2025. If the Rams trade him after June 1, they could save $27 million, or $23 million if they move him before then. That financial flexibility could make parting ways with the 36-year-old signal-caller a real possibility.

Kelly Stafford Weighs In

As always, Stafford’s wife, Kelly, isn’t shy about voicing her thoughts. On her podcast The Morning After With Kelly Stafford and Hank, she made some interesting comments about the Rams’ direction and how it affects her husband’s future.

“My husband wants to win,” she said. “He’s not trying to put a team in a bad situation. If you’re catching my drift, you’re catching my drift.”

Kelly also expressed confusion about the Rams’ recent moves, especially the reported plan to trade star receiver Cooper Kupp. “I will say the trading away of Cooper, I guess I’m just a little… confused,” she admitted. “Because we were one play away from going to the NFC Championship, and I think if we go, we win.”

What’s Next for Stafford?

Despite the trade buzz, Stafford is still expected to play in at least one more NFL season. The question is—will it be with the Rams, or will a quarterback-needy team make a move for the veteran passer?

If Stafford does get traded, potential landing spots could include teams looking for a proven veteran to make a Super Bowl push. With the offseason heating up, this could be one of the biggest storylines to watch.

Stay tuned—Stafford’s next move could shake up the NFL landscape.
