Media Slams Trump for Celebrating Golf Win While Skipping Ceremony for Fallen Troops
President Donald Trump caught major heat this weekend for celebrating a golf win while the stock market tanked and he skipped a solemn military ceremony.
Instead of attending the dignified transfer of remains for four American servicemembers killed in a training exercise in Lithuania, Trump sent Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and went to a LIV Golf tournament. The move didn’t sit well with military families or much of the press.
On Saturday, Trump played in the Senior Club Championship at his golf course in Jupiter, Florida. A brief update was sent out saying he won his second-round match and was headed to the championship round. That one-liner sparked a storm of criticism online.
Reporters and commentators across the board slammed the timing and tone. Some said it felt like propaganda from North Korea or something straight out of 1984. Others compared it to Nero fiddling while Rome burned or Marie Antoinette’s infamous “let them eat cake” moment.
Former NBC host Chuck Todd pointed out the rough state of the economy, while CNN’s Jake Tapper gave a dry “great news” in response. The View’s Ana Navarro, climate reporters, and more piled on, calling it tone-deaf and disconnected from reality.
CNN even aired a segment showing Trump blasting Obama for playing golf during his presidency something he’s now doing himself during a crisis. One anchor bluntly said it looks like Trump “doesn’t give an F.”
Overall, the reaction was loud and widespread: the optics weren’t great, and many thought Trump’s priorities seemed wildly out of touch.
