Mets Eye Bullpen Prize, Leaving Yankees in the Dust Once Again

The Mets have been making waves this offseason, grabbing Juan Soto from under the Yankees’ noses with a record-breaking deal. Now, they’re back at it, targeting lefty reliever Tim Hill, who’s also on the Yankees’ radar.

After snagging Soto, the Mets didn’t hit the brakes—they re-signed Sean Manaea and are plugging roster gaps, especially in the bullpen. Their bullpen is solid on the right-handed side, but they’re lacking a reliable lefty. Tim Hill fits the bill perfectly with his funky delivery and ability to shut down left-handed hitters. He turned things around last season with a 2.05 ERA after joining the Yankees, proving he can handle high-pressure situations.

Facing sluggers like Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber in their division, and potentially Shohei Ohtani or Freddie Freeman in October, the Mets know they need someone like Hill to neutralize the lefty power bats. Plus, stealing another free agent from the Yankees is always a sweet bonus for the Mets.

While not a blockbuster move, adding Hill could be a strategic win for the Mets, strengthening their bullpen and keeping their crosstown rivals in check.
