Miami Explores Cornerback Options with Detroit’s Robertson in Focus

The Miami Dolphins are going all in for 2025, but there’s still a pretty big hole at cornerback across from Jalen Ramsey. Rather than banking on a rookie to fill that spot, one trade idea has the Dolphins turning to Detroit for a proven veteran—and it actually makes a lot of sense for both sides.

The proposal? Miami sends a fourth-round pick to the Lions in exchange for cornerback Amik Robertson.

Don’t let his 5-foot-9 frame fool you—Robertson plays much bigger than his size. He made his mark last season in a standout game against All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson. Lined up one-on-one, Robertson limited Jefferson to just 48 yards on six targets, broke up a pass, and added five tackles. Dan Campbell was so impressed he handed him a game ball afterward.

Though he was originally seen as a slot-only guy, Robertson stepped up when injuries forced him outside—and he delivered. His versatility and toughness made him a key piece of Detroit’s defense. But with the Lions’ revamped and deep cornerback room, he could be expendable without hurting the team’s overall depth.

From Miami’s side, this would be a steal. Robertson is not only effective in coverage—allowing just 46 receptions for 576 yards and two touchdowns in 2024—but he’s also a beast in the run game. Pro Football Focus gave him an 89.7 run defense grade, sixth-best in the league.

For a fourth-round pick, Miami could solidify its secondary with a low-cost, high-impact player. It’s a win-win: Detroit gets more draft capital, and the Dolphins get a reliable starter to round out a talented cornerback trio with Ramsey and Kader Kohou.

If Miami wants to keep pace in the AFC arms race, this might be the kind of move that makes a real difference.
