The Miami Dolphins have a bit of a tight end situation going into the draft, but it’s not the biggest concern on their list. Fans are really hoping the Dolphins will snag Penn State’s Tyler Warren with the 13th pick, but this might not be the best move for the team.
In the past, the Dolphins have taken a chance on tight ends like Mike Gesicki and even drafted Durham Smythe the next year. With Warren likely to go in the top 10, Miami’s already got their sights on other tight end prospects like Mason Taylor and Elijah Arroyo.
Miami’s tight end room isn’t terrible right now. Jonnu Smith is returning after having one of his best seasons ever last year. They still like what Julian Hill brings, despite some ups and downs. Plus, they’re hoping players like Hayden Rucci and Tanner Conner can step up. To top it off, they brought in Pharaoh Brown to improve their blocking.
While another tight end could help, it shouldn’t be the Dolphins’ priority. With their roster needing attention in other spots, it would be a shock if GM Chris Grier used a high pick on a tight end this year. If Warren somehow drops to No. 13, Miami should trade that pick for more draft capital and focus on improving depth later on.
At the end of the day, Miami’s got bigger needs to address than adding another tight end early in the draft.
