Cowboys’ Star Weighs In on NFC East Rival’s Blockbuster Move
The NFL offseason always brings surprises, but few expected the Washington Commanders to pull off a trade for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel. The move sparked plenty of reactions, but one of the most notable came from Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons.
Commanders Land Deebo in a Low-Cost Trade
Washington made a bold move by acquiring Samuel, giving up only a fifth-round pick in return. The veteran receiver, despite showing some decline in recent seasons, still brings versatility and playmaking ability. Pairing him with quarterback Jayden Daniels and fellow wideout Terry McLaurin could elevate the Commanders’ offense under Kliff Kingsbury.
For the 49ers, moving Samuel frees up cap space, potentially paving the way for a contract extension for quarterback Brock Purdy. Given Samuel’s trade request earlier this year, the deal made sense for both parties.
Micah Parsons Calls Out the Trade
While the Commanders celebrated their big move, the Cowboys’ star pass rusher had a different take. Reacting to a social media post about the trade, Parsons didn’t hold back.
“Washington picked up almost 22 million on Deebo contract this year! This legit doesn’t correlate at all!” Parsons wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Parsons’ frustration likely stems from how this trade compares to the Cowboys’ own questionable wide receiver moves. The Cowboys sent a fourth-round pick to acquire Jonathan Mingo, a player who has yet to make a significant impact. Meanwhile, Washington landed an established star for an even lower price.
Is Parsons Right to Be Frustrated?
While Parsons’ criticism is valid from a financial standpoint—Samuel’s contract is hefty—Washington had the cap space to absorb it. The Commanders are betting that Samuel’s past production will return, and even if he doesn’t reach his peak form, his presence still strengthens their receiving corps.
For the Cowboys, the sting comes from the comparison. Dallas took a risk on an unproven player, while Washington secured an established playmaker without breaking the bank. If Samuel thrives in Washington, the move could shift the balance of power in the NFC East.
A Move That Changes the Division?
Parsons and the Cowboys will have to watch from the sidelines as Washington integrates Samuel into their system. If he delivers, the Commanders’ offense could be one of the most dynamic in the league.
Whether Parsons is ultimately proven right remains to be seen, but for now, it’s clear that one of Dallas’ biggest rivals just got stronger.
