Mike McDaniel Talks Tyreek Hill’s Future With Dolphins, Updates on Terron Armstead
Despite having gotten a big contract extension last summer, Tyreek Hill is still popping up in trade rumors especially after how his 2024 season ended.
Hill’s exit from Miami’s Week 18 game and his vague comments afterward got people speculating, and even though Dolphins GM Chris Grier said Hill didn’t request a trade, the noise hasn’t died down. Head coach Mike McDaniel made it clear recently that, at least right now, the team plans to stick with Hill.
McDaniel said he wants a stronger relationship with Hill moving forward and made it sound like he expects the wide receiver to stay put. Hill also made a public effort earlier this year to show support for Tua Tagovailoa and the team, but his name still floats around in trade talks.
There’s a financial angle too trading Hill before June 1 would cost Miami over $28 million in dead money. But since he’s turning 31 this season, the idea of trading him now (while he still has strong value) isn’t totally off the table, especially with the draft coming up.
Hill’s production dipped last year due to injuries both his own and Tua’s finishing with 959 yards. He had offseason wrist surgery, and the Dolphins are hoping he bounces back if he stays.
As for left tackle Terron Armstead, McDaniel said no final decision has been made about his possible retirement. Armstead, who’s dealt with injuries his whole career, played 15 games last season tying his personal best. He’s still mulling over whether he wants to come back, and if he does, Miami will need to renegotiate his deal. He’s still playing at a high level, even though he turns 34 this year.
