Mock Trade Sends Jarrett Allen to Lakers in Four-Team Blockbuster

Don’t look now, but the Lakers might not be done making big-time moves.

Earlier this year, L.A. shocked the league by pulling off the blockbuster of all blockbusters, landing Luka Doncic just before the trade deadline. That deal lit a fire under the team, and the Lakers stormed their way to the Pacific Division crown and a No. 3 seed in the West.

Now, ESPN’s Kevin Pelton has cooked up a trade scenario that would send another major piece to L.A.—this time, a big man. In his mock trade, the Lakers walk away with All-Star center Jarrett Allen.

Here’s how the proposed deal shakes out:

Lakers get: Jarrett Allen

Mavs get: Donovan Mitchell + 3 future picks

Cavs get: 2025 No. 1 pick, Jevon Carter, Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber, P.J. Washington, Daniel Gafford

Bulls get: Dalton Knecht, Caleb Martin, three future second-round picks

Adding Allen would give the Lakers a legit interior anchor, something they’ve badly needed. With LeBron still doing LeBron things and Doncic now on board, Allen could be the glue that ties it all together defensively.

Let’s be honest—some of the guys heading out in this deal aren’t long-term fits in L.A. anyway. Gabe Vincent has a high price tag and inconsistent production. Dalton Knecht, the 2024 first-rounder, already got traded once. And Kleber? He’s coming off a foot surgery and barely touched the court since arriving in the Doncic deal.

Sure, it would depend on Cleveland’s willingness to pivot and build around Evan Mobley and Darius Garland, but if they ever open the door, Rob Pelinka needs to kick it wide open. Getting Allen would be worth sacrificing a few future assets, especially if it keeps the title window alive.

The Lakers have gone all-in before. Don’t be surprised if they do it again.
