Jared Goff Shares Special Moment with Dan Campbell, Lions After Trade
When Jared Goff was traded to the Detroit Lions in 2021, he went from the sunny beaches of Los Angeles to the cold winters of Detroit. But looking back, he now sees that moment as a turning point in his career.
Speaking on the Glue Guys podcast, Goff recalled the whirlwind of emotions he felt when he was traded. After hearing from Rams coach Sean McVay, news of the trade broke almost instantly on Twitter. As his phone blew up, he initially ignored most calls—until his agent urged him to answer one from Lions general manager Brad Holmes.
“Brad’s on the phone like, ‘Hey Jared, Jared!’ He’s so excited. ‘Finally, I got you. We’re so excited for you.’ And then I hear Dan [Campbell] in the background, ‘Jared, I can’t wait to have you here.’”
That moment of unwavering support from Holmes and Campbell gave Goff the confidence he needed to embrace his new opportunity. “That feeling of someone breathing life into you… That right there is the moment,” he said.
Now, as Goff enters the 2025 season, he’s helped turn the Lions into legitimate contenders. And with a shot at Detroit’s first-ever Super Bowl, he’s ready to finish the journey he started on that phone call four years ago.
