Myles Garrett’s Extension Shuts Door on Lions Trade Hopes

Myles Garrett’s Extension Ends Any Hope of Lions Trade
For those dreaming of Myles Garrett in a Detroit Lions uniform, that hope officially ended with his record-breaking contract extension with the Cleveland Browns. The All-Pro defensive end will now earn an average of $40 million per year, with $123.5 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

While there was speculation about a potential trade—especially after Garrett publicly requested one—the Browns never wavered on their stance that he was a franchise cornerstone. Detroit’s general manager Brad Holmes also made it clear at the NFL Combine that the Lions were unlikely to spend big on a high-priced edge rusher this offseason.

With Garrett and Maxx Crosby now locked into extensions, the Lions’ options in free agency remain open. Trey Hendrickson has been given permission to seek a trade, but no direct Lions interest has been reported. The team may now turn to more affordable defensive end options to bolster their pass rush heading into 2025.
