Seahawks Might Draft a QB to Challenge Sam Darnold
The Seahawks shook things up by bringing in Sam Darnold as their new quarterback, signing him to a three-year, $100.5 million deal. Darnold had a breakout year with the Vikings last season, throwing for over 4,300 yards and 35 touchdowns. But even with that big contract, Seattle seems to be keeping their options open.
They recently traded away Geno Smith to the Raiders, and now it looks like Darnold might have some competition coming in through the draft. NFL.com’s Chad Reuter thinks the Seahawks could use their second-round pick to grab a quarterback specifically, Quinn Ewers out of Texas.
In this projection, Seattle takes Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka with the 18th overall pick, then snags Ewers at No. 35 in the second round. Ewers had a strong college career, leading Texas to multiple playoff appearances. He threw for over 3,400 yards and 31 touchdowns last season alone and totaled more than 9,000 passing yards in his career.
The guy’s used to competition too he beat out Arch Manning for the starting job at Texas. So while Darnold probably starts the season as QB1, Ewers on a rookie contract gives Seattle a potentially exciting backup plan.
The 2025 NFL Draft kicks off April 24 in Green Bay.
