New Detroit Tiger Goes Yard in First At-Bat — And He’s Got Lions DNA
Jahmai Jones made quite the entrance with the Detroit Tigers — blasting a home run on the very first pitch he saw during Friday night’s game against the Cubs. Not a bad way to introduce yourself to a new city.
Jones had just gotten called up from Triple-A Toledo earlier that day, so it was a whirlwind moment for him — and even more meaningful because Detroit already holds a special place in his heart. His dad, Andre Jones, played for the Detroit Lions in 1992, and his brother, T.J. Jones, suited up for the team from 2015 to 2018. So yeah, repping Detroit kind of runs in the family.
“Obviously, Detroit has a special place in my heart just because of the family ties,” Jones told the Detroit Free Press. “So being able to do it myself and add to it, it’s everything I could ask for.”
And he didn’t stop there. Jones followed up with a single on Saturday, showing he’s ready to contribute more than just a one-and-done highlight.
Saturday’s game marked the 71st of his MLB career, which has included stops with the Angels, Orioles, Brewers, Yankees — and now, finally, the Tigers.
