NFL Analyst Publicly Owns Up to Bad Jahmyr Gibbs Prediction

NFL Analyst Owns Up to Bad Jahmyr Gibbs Take—Right to His Face
When the Detroit Lions selected Jahmyr Gibbs at No. 12 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, the criticism was immediate. Many questioned the positional value, especially after the Lions had already signed David Montgomery and still had D’Andre Swift on the roster. Some even argued Montgomery was a downgrade from Jamaal Williams. But two years and two Pro Bowl selections later, it’s clear the Lions got it right.

One of the loudest critics back then was NFL analyst Gregg Rosenthal, who called the pick one of the worst in the draft. This week, during Super Bowl Radio Row, Rosenthal had to own up to his bad take in front of Gibbs and Montgomery themselves. Admitting it was “the worst tweet” he ever had, Rosenthal tried to apologize, but Montgomery wasn’t letting him off the hook easily. “You gotta eat that for a lot longer,” Montgomery joked, while Gibbs piled on, saying, “That should stay on ya.”

While many bad sports takes fade into history, this one has stuck around long enough for a real-life reckoning. Rosenthal deserves credit for taking it in stride, but it’s clear Gibbs and Montgomery enjoyed the chance to remind him—and the world—that the Lions knew exactly what they were doing.
