3 Lions Players Who Could Be on the Wrong Side of the Draft
The Detroit Lions are heading into the 2025 NFL Draft with one of the most talented rosters in the league—and a chance to make it even stronger. Brad Holmes has been money when it comes to drafting, but while fans get excited about who’s coming in, a few current Lions players have reason to look over their shoulders.
Here are three names that might feel the draft heat the most:
Marcus Davenport
Let’s be real—Davenport starting opposite Aidan Hutchinson isn’t exactly what fans were hoping for in 2025. He’s the projected starter now, but the Lions are very likely to grab an edge rusher early, possibly even with their first-round pick. Sure, this draft class doesn’t have a ton of productive college edge rushers, so a rookie might not take his job right away. But any pick at that position will be a clear sign that Davenport’s days as a starter are numbered.
Graham Glasgow
This one’s a bit more subtle. Glasgow is expected to start at guard this season, but if Detroit uses an early pick on an interior lineman, it’s a clear sign they’re thinking ahead. Glasgow turns 33 this year and carries an $8.44 million cap hit for 2026. The Lions could save over $5.5 million by moving on. So, while a rookie guard might not start right away, it could mean Glasgow is playing his final season in Honolulu blue.
Jameson Williams
This isn’t about job security—it’s about money. Williams has two years left to prove he’s worth a big second contract. The problem? Detroit has a ton of mouths to feed in its offense, and if the Lions draft a wide receiver on Day 2, that’s one more guy cutting into Williams’ targets. He was super efficient in 2024 (11 yards per target, sixth-best in the league), but he’ll need another 1,000-yard season—or two—to land a top-tier deal. A new WR3 could complicate that path, big time.
The draft is an exciting time, but for these three guys, it could be the beginning of the end—or at least the start of some uncomfortable conversations.
