NFL Draft Prospect Grey Zabel Raves About New Lions TE Coach

New Lions TE Coach Tyler Roehl Already Earning High Praise
The Detroit Lions’ new tight ends coach, Tyler Roehl, hasn’t spoken to the media yet, but his reputation is already making waves at the NFL Combine. Several draft prospects who have worked with Roehl describe him as a high-energy, passionate leader—the kind of coach who fits right into Dan Campbell’s culture.

Iowa State WR Jayden Higgins called Roehl “a high-energy guy,” while Jaylin Noel added, “I’ve never seen him tired.” But the strongest praise came from North Dakota State OL Grey Zabel, who played under Roehl during his time there.

“Ahh, Tyler Roehl is my guy. I love that man,” Zabel said. “The energy he has every single day is unbelievable. He’s a dude that can get you to run through a brick wall just by having a single conversation with him.”

Roehl, who spent the last two years at Iowa State, was nearly hired by Detroit in 2023. Campbell revealed they interviewed him two years ago but felt this was the right time to bring him aboard.

With Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright already in place, Roehl’s fiery personality could help take the Lions’ tight end group to the next level. Expect to hear a lot more about him once the offseason gets into full swing.
