NFL Prospect Says Picking Off Jared Goff Would Be a Career Highlight

Top NFL Draft Prospect Has Jared Goff in His Crosshairs

The Detroit Lions are entering the 2025 season with a giant target on their backs—and for good reason. After a 15-win campaign last year, Detroit is now one of the teams every opponent circles on their calendar. That spotlight has extended beyond just veteran players and coaches—it’s now catching the attention of the incoming rookie class.

During a recent appearance on Up & Adams, Georgia safety Malaki Starks was asked which NFL quarterback he most wants to pick off. His answer? None other than Lions quarterback Jared Goff.

“Just talking to some of my teammates that used to play here who are in the league now,” Starks told host Kay Adams. “He’s like an elite of elite quarterback, so just being able to add that to my resume… that would be cool.”

Starks isn’t just any prospect—he’s widely regarded as the top safety in this year’s draft, and one of the top defenders overall. He racked up six interceptions during his time at Georgia and helped anchor one of the nation’s best defenses.

Meanwhile, Goff has thrown 12 interceptions in back-to-back seasons, so there could be opportunities if Starks lands with a team that squares off against Detroit in 2025.

We won’t know Starks’ NFL destination until draft night, but if he ends up on the Lions’ schedule this fall, this rookie vs. vet showdown might be one to watch.
