With the 2025 NFL Draft just a month away, speculation is heating up about potential trades. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell has identified the Detroit Lions as a team that should consider moving up in the first round to address a glaring need—an edge rusher to pair with Aidan Hutchinson.
Despite re-signing Marcus Davenport and Al-Quadin Muhammad, neither player is viewed as a long-term answer. Barnwell suggests Detroit could trade up from No. 28 into the middle of the first round to secure a high-upside prospect like Mike Green (Marshall) or Shemar Stewart (Texas A&M). Given that Hutchinson is approaching a major contract extension, the Lions may need to act now to secure another young, cost-controlled pass rusher.
Detroit has already shown a willingness to trade up in recent drafts, moving up to land cornerback Terrion Arnold in 2024. With Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell eyeing another deep playoff run, an aggressive move for a top-tier pass rusher could be the missing piece for a dominant defense. Will the Lions make a splash on draft night, or will they trust their current rotation to get the job done?
