Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions wrapped up an impressive season with a 15-3 record, cementing themselves as one of the league’s most dominant teams. They entered the playoffs as the top seed in the NFC, thanks to their regular-season success. However, their postseason run came to an abrupt end with a 45-31 loss to the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round.

Despite the disappointing playoff exit, the Lions received some exciting news shortly after. The NFL’s official social media account revealed the finalists for the AP Most Valuable Player award, and Goff’s name was among them.

Goff had a stellar season, throwing for 4,629 yards and 37 touchdowns while completing 72.4% of his passes. He ranked second in the league in passing yards, fourth in passing touchdowns, and finished with a QBR of 68.4, which was sixth-best in the NFL.

Under Goff’s leadership, Detroit boasted one of the league’s most explosive offenses, averaging 33.2 points and 423.9 yards per game. Even in their playoff loss to the Commanders, the Lions gained 521 total yards, achieved 30 first downs, and converted 3-of-9 third downs.

Goff now joins other MVP finalists, including Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Saquon Barkley, and Lamar Jackson. The winner will be announced on February 6 at the Saenger Theater in New Orleans.
