The New York Giants have been busy with their quarterback situation, but they might not be done yet. They just signed Jameis Winston to a two-year deal, but with the No. 3 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, they’re still weighing their options.
The big question? Whether they can snag Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders—or if they’ll need to trade up to do it. And even if they do, there’s no guarantee either rookie will be ready to lead the team in a make-or-break year for GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll.
To cover all bases, the Giants have reportedly reached out to Aaron Rodgers and are in talks with Russell Wilson. But a wild new trade idea has fans buzzing.
The Big Trade Idea: Brock Purdy to the Giants?
Fox Sports’ Craig Carton threw out a blockbuster trade scenario on social media: The Giants would send three first-round picks (including a pick swap this year) to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for Brock Purdy. In this scenario, the Niners would then sign Aaron Rodgers as their new starter for 2025.
Purdy, once labeled “Mr. Irrelevant” as the last pick in the 2022 draft, has proven himself in a big way—leading the 49ers to the NFC Championship in 2022 and the Super Bowl in 2023. Trading for him wouldn’t be cheap, but at just 26 years old, he could be a long-term answer for a Giants team desperate for stability at QB.
Would the 49ers Actually Move Purdy?
That’s the big question. Purdy’s market value is projected at $60 million per year on a new four-year deal, so the 49ers will need to decide if they’re ready to commit that kind of money. They’ve already made big roster cuts this offseason, possibly to free up space for a Purdy extension.
So, while the Giants might be willing to pay up for a proven young QB, the bigger issue is whether the 49ers are ready to let him go. Either way, New York’s quarterback situation is far from settled, and more big moves could be coming.
