The Detroit Lions could be on the verge of shaking up their roster, as reports indicate that a former third-round pick is generating trade interest from multiple NFL teams. League sources confirm that at least four franchises have reached out to Detroit to inquire about the availability of the young player, whose role with the Lions has steadily diminished over the past season.
Though the player’s identity hasn’t been officially revealed, speculation points to defensive lineman Alim McNeill or wide receiver Josh Reynolds, both former mid-round selections who have faced stiff competition from younger talent during offseason workouts and minicamp.
McNeill, selected in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, showed early promise as a run-stuffer and interior pass rusher. However, with the Lions investing heavily in the defensive line in recent drafts and free agency, his snaps declined late last season. Similarly, Reynolds, although a reliable target when healthy, has been surpassed on the depth chart by emerging stars like Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams.
According to league insiders, the four teams expressing interest include two from the AFC and two from the NFC. All are believed to be searching for depth and rotational contributors with starting experience. The Lions, meanwhile, are reportedly open to dealing the player for a mid-to-late round pick, especially if they can free up cap space or add draft flexibility ahead of the 2025 season.
Detroit general manager Brad Holmes has a track record of maximizing value in trades, and moving a former third-rounder could help the franchise address other areas of need — particularly linebacker depth or a backup quarterback option.
Training camp opens in just a few weeks, meaning a deal could materialize quickly if talks intensify. For now, the Lions appear to be weighing their options carefully, aiming to build a roster capable of returning to the NFC Championship — or beyond.
Stay tuned as the trade market heats up in Detroit.
