The NFL season is officially in motion as training camps open across the league, marking the start of a long, grueling road to Super Bowl 60 in San Francisco. With the Los Angeles Chargers and Detroit Lions already in action and rookies reporting elsewhere, all veterans are set to join by midweek.
This year’s camps are buzzing with fresh energy — and not just from the summer heat. A wave of coaching changes has reshaped the league, with familiar names taking on new challenges. Pete Carroll is back with the Raiders, Mike Vrabel steps in for the Patriots, and Ben Johnson takes the reins in Chicago. Meanwhile, the Saints, Jaguars, Jets, and Cowboys also made bold head coaching moves.
Quarterback storylines are taking center stage, too. The Steelers are betting big on 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers, while the Browns have a crowded QB room featuring Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. In Tennessee, No. 1 pick Cam Ward begins his battle with Will Levis, while New York’s Giants weigh their options between Zach Wilson, Jameis Winston, and rookie Jaxson Dart.
All eyes will also be on joint practices — a growing preseason staple — as 29 teams prepare to test their starters without risking them in exhibition games. Meanwhile, six teams, including the Cowboys and Chiefs, are taking their entire camps on the road to escape distractions and ramp up intensity.
The Hall of Fame Game on July 31 will kick things off between Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers and Dan Campbell’s Lions. Then, the regular season gets underway with division rivals clashing early: Eagles vs. Cowboys on Sept. 4, and Chiefs vs. Chargers in Brazil the following night.
But there’s drama behind the scenes, too. Top draft pick Shemar Stewart and the Bengals remain at odds over contract terms, and Cowboys star Micah Parsons is next in line for a record-breaking extension that could make him the highest-paid non-QB in league history.
From roster cuts on August 26 to heated battles for starting roles, this year’s training camps are packed with tension, transformation, and high expectations — all with one destination in mind: Super Bowl 60.
