National Signing Day will be uneventful for the Alabama Crimson Tide, with no new signees expected during the late signing period from February 5-7.
The Crimson Tide’s recruiting class is already set with 20 prospects, and the team is not expected to add any new players during this period. This lack of new signees does not mean the Crimson Tide program will not be talked about, however.
One topic of discussion will likely be 5-star offensive lineman Ty Haywood, who de-committed from Alabama in January. Although Haywood’s decision was widely reported, it’s worth noting that Alabama stopped recruiting him months earlier due to his high asking price.
According to Alabama football insiders, Haywood’s representatives named a price for the 5-star lineman that was beyond what Alabama was willing to accept. While the Crimson Tide is far from being a poor program, it does not have the same level of financial resources as some other top programs.
These programs, including Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, Tennessee, LSU, Miami, Ohio State, and Michigan, have deeper pockets and may be more willing to meet the high asking prices of top recruits.
Despite missing out on Haywood, the Crimson Tide’s recruiting class is still highly ranked. The team is currently No. 3 in the nation, per On3, and No. 4, per 247Sports and Rivals.
Roster building for 2025 will continue for months, with another Transfer Portal opening in April. Alabama is expected to have more outgoing transfers before the season and will look to add more players to fill position needs on both sides of the line of scrimmage.
The Crimson Tide’s Transfer Class is currently small, but the team has done a good job filling needs. Transfer class rankings have Alabama at No. 47 in the FBS and No. 11 among SEC teams.
One analyst, Grant Hughes of 247Sports, gave Alabama’s Transfer Class a B+ grade, the fifth-highest in the SEC. The top three grades went to LSU (A+), Ole Miss (A), and Auburn (A).
Alabama head coach Nick Saban has praised Auburn’s recruiting efforts, saying he expects the Tigers to be the SEC’s most improved team next season. However, some Alabama fans have questioned how much Auburn’s roster could really improve, given its poor performance last season.
