The Detroit Lions are coming off a monster 15-2 season and back-to-back NFC North titles — but with big success comes big change.
This offseason, Detroit said goodbye to two of its top coordinators: Ben Johnson, now head coach of the Bears, and Aaron Glenn, who took over the Jets. Naturally, that raised questions about whether Dan Campbell could keep the train rolling without his right-hand guys.
But according to Lions insider Colton Pouncy of The Athletic, there’s no reason to panic. Despite the turnover, Campbell’s new-look staff is fully aligned with his vision.
In fact, even though Detroit canceled minicamp (thanks to an early training camp due to the Hall of Fame game), Pouncy said the coaching presence at OTAs was strong and clear: “They’re all Dan Campbell guys.”
That includes new OC John Morton and new DC Kelvin Sheppard — both with deep ties to Campbell and a strong understanding of what he demands. Morton will be looking to keep Jared Goff in rhythm, and Sheppard may bring a more aggressive style to the defense.
Sure, it may take some time to gel, but this is still one of the NFL’s most talented rosters. And even if Chicago and New York improve in 2025, Detroit’s foundation — from the top down — looks more solid than ever.
No Johnson, No Glenn? No Problem — Lions Coaching Staff Still in Sync Under Dan Campbell
