Notre Dame Hires Mike Martin as New General Manager with NFL Experience
Notre Dame football has reportedly hired Mike Martin, formerly the Detroit Lions’ director of scouting advancement, as their new general manager. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter and has since been confirmed by several outlets.
Martin, who spent four years with the Lions, played a key role in shaping the roster of the team that finished the 2024 regular season with a 15-2 record. Throughout his NFL career, Martin has worked with five different teams, bringing a wealth of experience in player development and roster building.
The general manager role in college football has evolved in recent years, with programs increasingly operating like NFL teams due to the influence of NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) deals. Notre Dame had originally targeted James Blanchard from Texas Tech for the position, but Blanchard declined the offer. The position became open after Chad Bowden, the previous GM, accepted a similar role at USC.
As Notre Dame moves forward under Martin’s leadership, his NFL expertise could prove to be a game-changer for the Irish, especially as the landscape of college football continues to shift.
