The Parramatta Eels have had a nightmare start to the 2025 NRL season, and rugby league greats Andrew Johns and Brad Fittler aren’t holding back in their criticism. After conceding a staggering 88 points in their first two games, the Eels have been slammed for their poor defensive decisions and lack of effort on the field.
Johns called their defensive reads “horrible,” particularly on the left edge, while Fittler pointed out their consistent “weak decisions” in key moments. Injuries and suspensions haven’t helped, with star halfback Mitchell Moses sidelined for at least six weeks with a foot injury. His absence has left a huge gap in the team’s structure, with replacement halfback Ronald Volkman struggling before being dropped for Dean Hawkins ahead of their clash with the Bulldogs.
With confidence at an all-time low and pressure mounting on new coach Jason Ryles, the Eels need a quick turnaround to avoid an early-season disaster.
