Ohio State’s Slippery Slope: Close Loss Signals a Fading Season

Ohio State basketball lost another heartbreaker, this time in overtime, falling 77-76 to Indiana. Both teams were coming off two straight losses and needed a win, but the Buckeyes couldn’t pull it off. They had a six-point lead at halftime and played some solid defense early on. But in the second half, Indiana pulled ahead by double digits.

Ohio State fought hard and managed to tie the game at 71 with just 34 seconds left, thanks to a clutch three-pointer by John Mobley Jr. Unfortunately, despite a strong performance from Mobley (22 points), including five threes, they couldn’t finish. The final play was drawn up for Mobley, but it ended with Bruce Thornton missing a good look at the basket.

This loss marks the Buckeyes’ third straight, dropping them to a 10-8 record. Their NCAA Tournament hopes are looking slim, and at this point, even making the Big Ten Tournament is uncertain. It’s been a rough stretch for first-year coach Jake Diebler, as the team’s early promise is fading fast.
