Optimistic Radio Host Shares Pessimistic Detroit Lions Prediction

The Detroit Lions’ offseason has left some fans concerned, including Marc Ryan, a usually upbeat sports radio host on 97.1 The Ticket, who voiced his doubts about the team’s Super Bowl chances in 2025.

“I can’t avoid it anymore—I don’t think the Lions had a good offseason,” Ryan said. “They missed out on trading up for Tennessee’s James Pearce, didn’t sign Za’Darius Smith, and haven’t improved a pass rush that ranked 23rd in sacks last year.”

Ryan also questioned the uncertainty surrounding Jared Goff’s performance now that former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has left for the Chicago Bears. He noted, however, that historically, teams replacing both coordinators in one offseason have only dropped an average of one win the following year.

The offensive line is another worry for Ryan. With Frank Ragnow’s sudden retirement and Kevin Zeitler’s departure, he fears the unit could become a liability. Combined with what he called the toughest road schedule in NFL history, Ryan sees the Lions in for a challenging season.

“I’m not trying to kill your excitement,” Ryan said, “but I don’t think this is a Super Bowl year for Detroit. This feels like a transition season—figuring out the offensive line, deciding Jameson Williams’ future, and adjusting to a new coordinator.”

Still, Ryan promised he’d welcome criticism if he’s wrong: “Should the Lions win the Super Bowl, I want you to give me hell. I don’t deserve to enjoy it if they prove me wrong.”
