Packers Era Over? NFL Insider Predicts AFC Move for Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers, one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, is looking for a new team after being cut by the New York Jets. But unlike previous years when multiple teams would have lined up for him, his options are now limited. After missing the 2023 season with an Achilles injury and showing signs of decline in 2024, only two teams seem seriously interested in him: the New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Steelers Emerge as the Front-Runner

Initially, there were three teams in the mix, with Rodgers reportedly favoring the Minnesota Vikings. However, the Vikings decided to pass, leaving the Giants and Steelers as his remaining options. Over the weekend, Rodgers met with Pittsburgh’s coaching staff and front office for six hours, while the Giants chose to sign Jameis Winston instead.

According to NFL insider Mike Florio, all signs now point to Rodgers joining Pittsburgh. A source close to the situation called it a “safe bet” that the veteran quarterback will end up in black and gold.

Why Pittsburgh?

The Steelers are coming off a solid 10-7 season, making them a much more appealing destination than the Giants, who finished a dismal 3-14. Pittsburgh has also been making moves to strengthen its offense, recently trading for Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf.

Another interesting twist? If Rodgers joins the Steelers, he’ll face his former team, the Green Bay Packers, for the first time in his career when Green Bay visits Pittsburgh during the 2025 season. Considering Rodgers’ rocky exit from Green Bay, that matchup is sure to be must-watch TV.

For now, the NFL world waits for Rodgers to make his decision, but all signs point to the Steelers as his next destination.
