Packers Poised to Make a Run at Eagles’ Super Bowl Standout in Free Agency

Could the Packers Land Eagles’ Super Bowl Hero Josh Sweat in Free Agency?

The Green Bay Packers made impressive strides on defense under Jeff Hafley, but one glaring weakness remains: the pass rush. With free agency on the horizon, could the Packers make a splash by signing one of the Eagles’ Super Bowl stars, Josh Sweat?

Why Josh Sweat Could Be the Perfect Fit for Green Bay

Sweat played a pivotal role in Philadelphia’s Super Bowl LIX victory, racking up 2.5 sacks and four total tackles in the Eagles’ dominant win over the Chiefs. At 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds, the 27-year-old edge rusher is set to be one of the most sought-after free agents this offseason.

According to NFL analyst Tyler Brooke of The 33rd Team, the Packers should be in the mix for Sweat’s services. While Green Bay’s defense showed promise, they still finished 26th in pass rush win rate. Rashan Gary took on a bigger role, but his pass-rushing productivity dipped, and first-round pick Lukas Van Ness struggled to make a major impact in his second season.

“The transition to a 4-3 defense might take a minute, but Sweat has the physical tools to handle those responsibilities,” Brooke noted. “As long as the Packers are willing to shell out a significant portion of their available cap space, he’d be a great fit.”

Can the Packers Afford Him?

Green Bay is projected to have over $39 million in cap space this offseason, giving them flexibility to pursue a high-impact player like Sweat. Given his recent production—eight sacks and 41 total tackles last season—he’d be an instant upgrade for a defense looking to take the next step.

The Packers have a history of making smart investments in their front seven, and if GM Brian Gutekunst sees Sweat as a difference-maker, don’t be surprised if Green Bay makes a strong push to sign him. Could we see Sweat wreaking havoc at Lambeau Field next season? It’s definitely a possibility Packers fans should keep an eye on.
