Patriots Land Carlton Davis in Free Agency, Strengthening Secondary
The New England Patriots bolstered their defense by signing cornerback Carlton Davis to a three-year, $60 million deal with $34.5 million guaranteed. Davis, who had a strong 2024 season with the Detroit Lions, reunites with former Lions assistant Terrell Williams, now the Patriots’ defensive coordinator.
Davis brings experience, physicality, and proven man-coverage skills, making him an ideal complement to Christian Gonzalez in New England’s secondary. The main concern? Durability—Davis has never played more than 14 games in a season. If he stays healthy, the Patriots’ defense just got a major upgrade.
