Patriots Hosting Former Pro Bowl WR for Potential Reunion

The New England Patriots have spent the offseason strengthening their defense, but their offense still needs help. Head coach Mike Vrabel admitted they missed out on top offensive free agents, so now they’re exploring other options.

One of those options? Four-time Pro Bowl receiver Stefon Diggs, who recently visited New England. Diggs is coming off a torn ACL that ended his 2024 season early, but if he bounces back, he could be a huge asset.

Diggs’ Journey So Far

Last season, Diggs was traded from the Buffalo Bills to the Houston Texans, where he played alongside C.J. Stroud. Things were looking good until Week 8, when he suffered a season-ending knee injury. Before that, he had 47 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns.

Now a free agent, Diggs hasn’t found a new team yet—likely because he may not be fully healthy at the start of the 2025 season. The Patriots’ meeting with him is the first known interest from an NFL team.

Should the Patriots Sign Him?

New England’s receiving corps could use a boost. Right now, their top options include DeMario Douglas, Kendrick Bourne, Kayshon Boutte, and newly signed Mack Hollins. Not exactly a star-studded group. The question is, can Diggs still be a No. 1 receiver at 31 and coming off a serious injury?

The Patriots have already tried to land big-name wideouts. They made a strong push for Chris Godwin, but he stayed with the Buccaneers. They also showed interest in Cooper Kupp before he joined the Seahawks.

With most top free-agent receivers off the board, Diggs might be their best shot at upgrading the offense—unless they turn to the trade market or the draft.

What’s Next?

If Diggs proves he can still be an impact player, the Patriots could take the gamble. But if they pass, they’ll have to get creative to add firepower for young quarterback Drake Maye.
