Why Kendrick Bourne Apologized After Cooper Kupp Chose Seattle Over New England
Kendrick Bourne really wanted his college buddy Cooper Kupp to join the Patriots, but things didn’t work out the way he’d hoped.
As soon as Kupp’s future with the Los Angeles Rams became uncertain, Bourne, who played with Kupp at Eastern Washington, started trying to recruit him to New England. However, Kupp ended up making a different choice. He signed with the Seattle Seahawks after being released by the Rams, which was closer to home for him.
Though the Patriots never seemed fully committed to bringing Kupp to Foxborough, Bourne couldn’t help but apologize to the fans when the wideout ended up elsewhere. On social media, he posted, “Noooooo Pats Nation, my bad, I tried. Lol happy for my brotha tho! He deserves the best! ‘Cause he is the best!”
It was a surprising move since Kupp was one of the most coveted receivers available, and New England might have benefitted from adding him to the roster as they look to build around quarterback Drake Maye. But for now, Bourne’s attempt at recruiting Kupp will just have to be a “what could’ve been.”
