Patriots Ready to Strike at No. 4 After Big Draft Strategy Sessions

The New England Patriots are gearing up for the 2025 NFL Draft with nine picks, starting with the No. 4 overall spot. Head coach Mike Vrabel, now in his first year leading the team, has big plans to rebuild the squad and bring back that winning New England culture.

The team went into the offseason with over $120 million in cap space, the highest in the NFL, and they’ve already added 16 new players, mostly to strengthen the defense. Veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs is the biggest offensive addition, which should give second-year quarterback Drake Maye a solid target to work with.

The defense is also getting some key upgrades with the signings of linebackers Harold Landry III and Robert Spillane, cornerback Carlton Davis III, and defensive tackles Milton Williams and Khyiris Tonga. Vrabel is building the team with a veteran defense, similar to how the Patriots’ early success was led by strong defensive play, which helped Tom Brady become the GOAT.

Now, the focus is on strengthening the offensive line and adding more weapons for Maye. The Patriots’ draft strategy seems pretty clear, especially after they’ve added Diggs to the roster, leaving the offensive line as the biggest need.

The Pats have the No. 4 overall pick in the upcoming draft, and with Vrabel’s defensive background, there’s speculation they might be looking at a top linebacker like Abdul Carter. However, given their offseason moves, a more likely pick is LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell. A top-tier tackle will help protect Maye and improve the run game, which was one of the league’s worst last year.

Other possible picks include Travis Hunter, a dual-threat player who can contribute as both a wide receiver and cornerback. But with the Pats’ current depth in the secondary, it seems unlikely they’d draft him just for his cornerback skills.

Overall, Vrabel’s strategy points toward going for offensive line help early. The No. 4 pick should go to Campbell, a solid choice who impressed Vrabel in his recent visit. The Patriots have the chance to make a real impact in the draft, especially with four picks in the Top 100. But the focus should definitely be on bolstering the offense, starting with Campbell.
