Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro Declares Eagles “America’s Team” After Super Bowl Victory
Following the Philadelphia Eagles’ dominant 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro couldn’t resist taking a playful jab at the Dallas Cowboys. During the Eagles’ victory parade, Shapiro proclaimed the Eagles as “America’s Team,” a title long associated with their rivals from Dallas, who have not won a Super Bowl in 30 years.
“Being an Eagles fan, I know how people love to hate us,” Shapiro said. “But something I noticed is, all of a sudden, people were coming together to cheer on our Philadelphia Eagles. Not just here in Philly, but all across America.”
As the parade continued, Shapiro addressed Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, adding, “It would seem, [Jeffrey] that the Philadelphia Eagles are now America’s team. You hear that, Dallas?”
The statement prompted Eagles fans to chant “Dallas sucks,” further fueling the rivalry between the two NFC East teams. Shapiro also made light of a beer can incident during the parade, when Eagles GM Howie Roseman was hit by a tossed beer.
While the Cowboys have yet to respond to Shapiro’s comments, the Governor’s playful remarks reflect the growing pride and excitement surrounding the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory.
