Perfect Fit: 3 NY Jets Free Agents That Could Elevate Aaron Glenn’s Defense

With Aaron Glenn officially taking the reins as head coach of the New York Jets, the team now faces the critical task of building a roster that can succeed in his defensive scheme. Despite limited cap space, the Jets can make strategic moves in free agency to complement Glenn’s defensive vision. Here are three free agent targets who could thrive in Glenn’s system:

1. **Khalil Mack, EDGE (Los Angeles Chargers)**

Mack, a nine-time Pro Bowler and future Hall of Famer, has proven he’s still got it. After recording 31 sacks over three seasons with the Chargers, Mack would provide an immediate boost to the Jets’ edge rusher group. His all-around skills in both pass rushing and run defense make him a perfect fit for Glenn’s aggressive, versatile defense. With the Jets thin at edge rusher, Mack could provide the veteran presence and production needed to elevate their defense.

2. **Carlton Davis, CB (Detroit Lions)**

Davis, who played under Glenn in Detroit after a solid stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, could be a key addition for the Jets’ secondary. Although his career has been marred by injuries, his talent is undeniable. Davis ranked as a top 30 corner in both coverage and run defense, which would add much-needed stability to the Jets’ inconsistent cornerback group. A one-year deal could allow the Jets to take a low-risk gamble on his ability to stay healthy and mentor the younger players in the defensive backfield.

3. **D.J. Jones, DT (Denver Broncos)**

Jones, a stout defensive tackle, could help shore up the Jets’ interior defensive line, which was one of their weakest points last season. After helping turn around Denver’s defense, Jones could step in as a starting DT alongside Quinnen Williams. His ability to disrupt the run game would be a welcome addition, and his contract demands are likely to be reasonable, which aligns well with the Jets’ cap situation.

With these three free agents, the Jets could significantly upgrade their defense under Glenn’s leadership, positioning themselves to make a serious playoff push.
