Detroit’s Maxx Crosby Dream Appears to Be Over
For months, Detroit Lions fans clung to the tantalizing hope of landing star edge rusher Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders. With the team poised to make a serious playoff push, adding Crosby to pair with Aidan Hutchinson seemed like the final piece of the puzzle. However, Seahawks legend Pete Carroll, now at the helm of the Raiders, seems to have crushed those dreams in emphatic fashion.
A Trade That Almost Made Too Much Sense
The rumors surrounding Crosby’s potential move to Detroit gained steam during the Lions’ defensive struggles last season. After suffering countless injuries on defense, bringing in Crosby—a dominant force on the edge—felt like the perfect move to shore up the team’s weaknesses and bolster their playoff chances.
Even after the Lions fell short of postseason glory, fans continued to hope. The Raiders, languishing in one of the NFL’s toughest divisions, seemed far from contention, making Crosby a natural candidate for a blockbuster trade. For Lions fans, those words felt like a dagger to the heart. Not only was Carroll reaffirming Crosby’s importance to the Raiders’ future, but he was also making it clear that Crosby is central to his plans to reshape the team.
A Glimmer of Hope or the End of the Line?
While Carroll’s comments appear definitive, speculation persists. Could his declaration be a strategic bluff to raise Crosby’s trade value ahead of draft night? It wouldn’t be the first time a coach has talked up a player publicly only to move him shortly thereafter. Still, the tone and directness of Carroll’s statements suggest otherwise.
Crosby’s presence at the press conference only added to the sense of finality. It’s hard to imagine the Raiders’ new coach rallying around his best player one day and trading him the next. Even in the unpredictable world of NFL trades—and with the Raiders’ penchant for chaos—this scenario feels far-fetched.
