Peyton Manning Shares the Message He Sent Dan Campbell After Lions’ Loss

Peyton Manning’s Message to Dan Campbell: Stay the Course
The Detroit Lions’ playoff run ended in heartbreak, but Peyton Manning knows what it’s like to fall short before breaking through.

After Detroit’s Divisional Round loss to Washington, Manning reached out to Dan Campbell with a message of encouragement.

“I know how you feel, I’ve been there, and it’s not a good feeling,” Manning said. “Understand that, but we won it all the next year. You just kind of keep sawing wood.”

Manning, who suffered a similar setback with the 2005 Colts before winning a Super Bowl in 2006, understands how teams respond to disappointment. Some overreact and make drastic changes. Others trust the process and build on their progress.

“That was the kind of loss that could make an organization say, ‘Let’s change everything.’ Or your owner can say, ‘Hey, we’re doing something right, let’s keep going,’” he explained.

With the Lions now viewed as perennial contenders, the challenge is clear: Finish the job.
