Pistons Fight Hard but Fall to Knicks; Lions, Wolverines Shine in NFL Draft

It was another nail-biter in Detroit last night, but the Pistons couldn’t quite pull it off. The New York Knicks escaped with a 118-116 win at Little Caesars Arena to take a 2-1 lead in their first-round playoff series. Karl-Anthony Towns dropped 31 points and Jalen Brunson added 30 for New York, while Cade Cunningham and Tim Hardaway Jr. led the Pistons with 24 apiece.

Despite the loss, the Pistons proved they can go toe-to-toe with the Knicks. It’s a toss-up series now, and Game 4 on Sunday is shaping up to be massive. Win it, and Detroit evens things up. Lose it, and they head back to New York down 3-1.

Meanwhile, over at the NFL Draft in Green Bay, the Detroit Lions made a smart, steady move in the first round. With the 28th pick, they added Ohio State defensive lineman Tyleik Williams — a solid addition to a defensive front that’s already trending upward.

As for the University of Michigan, it was a banner night. Three Wolverines went in the first round: Mason Graham to the Browns at No. 5, Colston Loveland to the Bears at No. 10, and Kenneth Grant to the Dolphins at No. 13. All three are expected to make an immediate impact in the NFL.

Even Michigan State made a quiet appearance in the draft conversation. Though technically not repping MSU anymore, Derrick Harmon — who transferred from East Lansing to Oregon — was picked by the Steelers.

And let’s not forget the Tigers. They’re quietly leading the AL Central with a 15-10 record, despite a string of early-season injuries. Former first-rounders Casey Mize and Spencer Torkelson are finally showing why they were drafted so high, with Mize holding a 3-0 record and Torkelson powering up with 7 home runs and 21 RBIs.

In short, it’s been a rollercoaster week for Detroit sports — close calls, solid moves, and plenty to be excited about.
