Trump has officially pulled security clearances from a group of high-profile political figures, including Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Kamala Harris, and Liz Cheney. The White House memo, released on March 21, states that these individuals will no longer have access to classified information, breaking from the traditional courtesy extended to former presidents and top officials.
The list also includes Secretary of State Antony Blinken, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and several prosecutors who have been involved in legal cases related to Trump. According to the memo, this decision removes their ability to receive classified briefings, including the President’s Daily Brief.
For some, this is just a symbolic move, but for lawyers and prosecutors on the list, it could create real obstacles in their work. Trump’s decision primarily targets Biden administration officials and those who opposed him politically.
Some of those affected, like attorneys Mark Zaid and Norman Eisen, shrugged off the announcement, saying it wasn’t the first time their security clearances had been revoked. Meanwhile, Adam Kinzinger openly mocked the move, pointing out that he retired from the military and didn’t have clearance anyway.
